APW - Waltham, Riverside Maximus, 23J, Model 1908, 16S, gold-filled HC recase with attractive engraving detail, fancy red guilloche enamel SS impressed dial with gold foil markings and numerals, fancy gilt Louis XV style hands, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, diamond endstones on balance and escape wheel, jeweled barrel, Lossier inner terminal hairspring, ornate nickel damascene, s#17083548. A rare Model 1908 hunting case example, this watch is from Waltham's final production run of hunting case 16 size Riverside Maximus movements which was a block of 200 serial numbers between serials 17083501 and 17083700, which is the only production run of hunting case Model 1908 Riverside Maximus listed in Waltham records.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, small spots of finish loss to inner end of center bridge, very short scratch adjacent balance cock screw, some mild fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere, winding wheels with somewhat different finish as ratchet wheel has a straight line radial brushed finish and crown wheel a curved brushed finish; dial with group of hls at 4; nearly mint hands; case shows medium wear, some fine scratches to cuvette perimeter from slipped past openings, shallow crease-type dent to right perimeter of rear with corresponding mild dent to cuvette, ding below-left of front center, profuse small nicks to band, reduced engraving detail; tight brassy bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
